Is my friend showing off when he's driving or generally a bad driver?

I got a lift with him home from a friends party a few weeks back and he kept stalling which I spose wasn't so bad as he'd only recently passed his test. Anyway, I got a lift with him the other day and he drove really recklessly! Like turning the corner really late and pulling out in front of other cars - which was embarrassing to say the least, and he almost had a head on collision but the other car luckily stopped.
